Anyone out there seen World War Z?
The hubsters and I watched it shortly after it was released and that movie freaked me out. I had a moment of major mommy anxiety when Brad Pitt’s character and his family are running to avoid the zombies. The whole time I kept thinking, “if this were us, we’d be dead. We are so out of shape, I wouldn’t be able to outrun a zombie for more than 10 minutes, especially while carrying the boys. Okay, make that five minutes.” I kid you not, those were my thoughts.
Now you’re probably having a good laugh right about now and saying that there are no such thing as zombies. Well folks, the Center for Disease Control says there are (yes, I realize the article is a little tongue in cheek), but the premise remains – BE PREPARED.
After the movie, I was a little quiet. When J2 asked what was wrong, that launched a whole discussion about how we’re out of shape and that if something were to happen, we wouldn’t make it for long at all. So we decided to make a change in our lives for the better.
Today is the first training day of our Zombie Apocalypse Preparation Plan (or #ZAPPlan as I’ll be hashtagging on Facebook and Instagram). Today we start eating clean, exercising, and focusing on getting our little family ready for not only the zombies, but any other natural disaster that comes our way. If you’re following along on Instagram, you saw when I strapped on my “new” tennies (they’re a year old and never been worn) and schlepped on over to the gym. It was ugly, but worth every agonizing minute.
Now we’re not going all hardcore and crazy at first. We’re just cutting out as many processed foods from our diet as we can, eating more fruits and vegetables and not going out to eat Mexican food all the time (giving THAT up will be hard). We’re also just working out-no PX90 or Insanity or any of that because when you haven’t worked out on a regular basis for a couple of years, that would be, well, STUPID. In addition, we’ll be putting together our emergency preparedness plan, because it’s about time I actually did something I pinned on Pinterest.
With that being said, does anyone have any tips for success? Recipes they’d like to link to and share? We need all the help I can get and there’s nothing better than getting the inside scoop from people in the know.
